Voyle Park Rangers

Golden Boot

Shooting Blanks

Another week without any goals scored so Gareth remains in top spot with seven. FJ and Lester are one back on six.

Of course we’re planning on scoring lots on Sunday so this could all change …….. Remember Phil – a hat-trick this week will count!

Player of the Day

Eee Up Luv

Player of the day goes to Big Dave (Hill) – probably his best performance of the season. Solid as always in the head  centre of defence with a few of his chinky runs thrown in.

Shane picks up a couple of points for surviving the onslaught down his side of the pitch with Geoff grabbing a point for his efforts to play constructive football on attack.

Gareth remains in top spot but Dave Hill joins the hunting pack of Dave Hall and Norm three points behind. With two games remaining, there are seven blokes who can claim top spot for the year.

Give that man a hand

Team man also goes to Geoff. Not only did he just jump in and work in the bar on Sunday but every week he’s out there putting up nets and flags. Always good to spread the load…..

Lester, Chris and Geoff are leading the points table but Cam and Dave Hill are only one back.

TVP 0, Red Devils 6 or 7

Our Cup Runith Over

Well our tenure as Kerkhoff/Voyle Park Cup holders is over – well and truly beaten by a rampant Red Devils side.

We had another off day, showing a lack of confidence on the ball and passes that just missed the mark or were too short. Fair due to the Devils though, even they admitted it was one of their best performances.

Seven goals conceded but not due to any short comings of Campbell in goal. Given the circumstances, he did all what could be expected. Freddy Flinstone at the back was a tad slow again but his scouse worshipping off-sider played well – as did the outside backs.

Actually I’m only guessing it was seven goals – I gave up counting after two.

We were overrun in the midfield, not quite getting our positioning right as players subbed on and off. Definitely more talking was needed (not often you can say that when there are 3 Daves on the pitch).

Lots of running up front by FJ and Vaughan but in all honesty, we weren’t battering their goal mouth.

We did look good at times – especially in the photo before the game but not for long enough.

On the plus side, it was great having the three subs and the bar takings were up.

That goal was totally Smurfy

Gareth’s penalty takes him to top of the standings with a season haul of seven.

Lester and FJ are still lurking 1 goal behind on 6.

Player of the Day

A man mountain

Player of the day simply has to go to Runty. Nothing he could do about the four goals but he certainly stopped a lot of others going in. Goal kicks also went really well (not that I’m saying sometimes they don’t….).

As an aside, I was watching the Cambridge First team on Saturday – their ‘keeper wears a leopard skin jersey and pink boots. Could this be Runty’s attire next season?

Gareth (aka Hobbly Smurf, la-la  la-la-la ) picks up the 2 points for dashing here and there with Mr D (Dave Hall) getting a point for his work at the back.

This means that Hobbly Smurf is now clear at the top with 12 points, with Mr D and Norm of the Cross 3 back on 9. Lester and Runty, the vertically challenged twins are also in the chase on 8.

Chris gets team man – simply for putting up with getting recalled to the back line for all but 2 minutes of the game.

Chris and Lester are tied for first spot with 3 a piece.

Voyle Park 1, PSL 4

CRAP

Well what can one say?

·         We lost

·         Losing sucks

·         We played crap – not as individuals but as a team we were pretty bad.

·         Without a fine performance from Runty, it could have been much worse

·         More guys ended up hobbling

Still, on the positive side ……… it was a nice sunny day.

The only real highlight apart from Runty’s saves was a cracking shot from Liam that cannoned off of the post. If it had gone in, it would have surpassed Lester’s volley for goal of the season. Alas it was not to be.

Oh – we can also say that the penalty was really well taken by Gareth – never any danger of it not going in.

Right let’s just move onto next week…….

Golden Boot

It’s a three-way

Our leading scorers are entwined in a 3-way ……. competition. Lester, FJ and Gareth are all on 6 goals with Clayton and Geoff back on 4

Player of the day

Dressed and crossed

Norm the cross …… was on-song again creating havoc down the right and putting some beautiful balls across. Even his dying moment was putting a pin point cross in, leading to a good shot, as he fell to the ground crippled.

Chris spent the day hunting in the midfield – a one man panzer division. He also created some good shooting opportunities for himself.

FJ ran hard and made a real pest of himself, attacking their defenders. Good to see he is also getting into that strikers mind-set – see the goal, have a crack (and let’s face it, a simple 2 step plan like that is all any striker can deal with).

A point to Campbell – simply for not making any mistakes. On a day like that, many ‘keepers would have had a “Minties moment’ and the fact that I can’t tease him about anything is a sign that he did very well.

Finally another point (Ok so numerous third places – but it’s all about participation) but the heavy ground never slowed down the Energiser Bunny aka Geoff who ran hard all day and also had a few good cracks.

A 2 week run sees Norm streaking into second place on the table however Gareth is defyently holding onto top spot

Team Man

Team man goes to Gareth. Broken foot and he’s still playing and running around like he knows what he’s doing. Always good seeing injured guys having a crack (especially when you only have 11). Mind you I think he might be playing down the extent of his injuries – yes he might be admitting to a broken foot but my money is on something way more serious…… He only had two arguments the entire game, I was so worried I almost called an ambulance!!

TVP 0, Waldorf Salad 2

The result may have sucked but what a glorious day weather wise. Fat old defenders simply love the mud (just no hippo jokes please). Slide tackles, slowed strikers and mud head to toe – what more could a bloke ask for – apart from all that plus a win.

Mind you, it wasn’t just defenders having a ball. Bob slid into some tackles like a nuclear powered torpedo.

An even contest that could have gone either way. They probably had the best of the first half and we were the better side in the second. Both of their goals really came about due to the conditions while we had some good chances but it just wasn’t to be.

Given the conditions, we passed really well and our wide game continues to stretch opposition teams.

Fair to say that the Salad team changes remarkably every time you play them – either that or their players have found the fountain of youth. Young and fit in the most part, with only a couple of the mouthy ones left.

Interesting to note how many teams are social when they’re winning but if we’re winning, they squawk and whinge all day. Having said that, their ref was very good (much better than when he was playing last time when he was a right twat).

Finally - I don’t like to start rumours, but Phil and Eugene have history and both were absent for this game. Read into that what you will ………….

Player of the day

In his rightful spot

Player of the day simply has to be Campbell. The guy was everywhere in the central midfield. Bone crunching tackles in defence and positive drive going forward. Definitely his best game of the year.

FJ may have missed a couple of chances but he ran hard to create opportunities and he managed to pressure defenders into mistakes that could have resulted in more chances if we had a tad more luck. Defensive pressure up that end of the pitch is something that can make a huge difference.

Izaak also had a couple of good chance and added a bit of spice up the front.

Despite a week off enjoying sunshine, Gareth still holds a two point lead.

Team Man

Double winner for team man this week.

Lester went into the game with a decidedly dodgy calf muscle that basically lasted all of 10 minutes. As we only had 11 players, he stayed on the pitch to fill a hole. Brave move seeing he was flying out to the UK for a holiday on Tuesday.

Dave Hill gets a point, not for the beer he brought with him (though I must admit, that did go down very well), more the fact that he turned up to support even when he couldn’t play due to injury.

Lester is now out in front by himself however 4 guys are only 1 back.

I also want to acknowledge Chris – the poor guy always plays well despite whatever position he ends up in, and he has been in most of them. He is the team’s “Mr Fixit”
