Voyle Park Rangers

7 A-Side Tournament

In a single word, HOT. That’s a summary of the 7 aside tournament - you can add a more descriptive word in front but I think we all get the message.

The 10 fit young athletes from Voyle Park battled the heat and higher ranked opposition to give a “jolly good show”. We started well however as people left and the heat started to take a toll, things got more difficult, but overall a day’s endeavour to be proud of.

Game 1 proved that you have to play smart. Opposition passed the ball like a bunch of Spanish midfielders but rarely troubled our goal. We had a few decent opportunities and could easily have snatched a win. Final whistle and it was nil all.

Game 2 followed a similar pattern. We had fewer chances and they certainly made us work hard defensively. Everyone rallied and another nil all result was achieved.

The solid defence carried into game 3. We were clearly outplayed by a team that is normally 1st or 2nd in division 1, however the hard work was paying off. It took a very dubious penalty late in the 2nd half to enable them to record a one nil win.

Game 4 was a different story. Three people had left, a couple of injuries and, well let’s face it, we were just buggered. Still 2 nil loss to the team that won div 4 last year wasn’t too bad.

Disappointing not to have scored (and we definitely had chances) or to notch a win but overall I think we can be fairly pleased with the way we played.

Special thanks to Geoff and his gazebo – not sure we would have survived without it.

Top Scorers 5 February

One week to go and can anyone catch our run away leader? With Mark injured, Dave H is the only one who could even think about toppling the king - and how hard is it to score 6 more goals than FJ anyway??. For the Broken, we’re expecting a wee miracle that will see Chris score more than 12 goals to jump to first place.

A win and a loss for The Killers. First up a wee hiding 1 - 5 with FJ (who else) scoring. Second game was a complete turn around with a 3 - 1 win (goals shared between FJ, Shane and Cam).

The Broken had a sad night - well beaten in both games 1 - 4 and 0 - 5. Mark scored the only goal (which was a cracker). The non-stop running of Geoff was certainly missed as we increasingly live up to our name (2 duff backs, bloody toes, pulled muscles, skinned and dodgy knees)

Top Scorers at 29 Jan

This week I refuse to repeat that FJ is still our leading scorer - but he hasn’t dropped to second yet.

Leon, Brad and Dave H added to their tallies this week. Marks absence this week will make it harder for him to catch the top two. Geoff failed to heed our advice to score 10 in the last game so is likely to finish 4th or 5th

A double loss for both team - bugger.

Killers lost 2 - 3 and 0 - 5. First loss was to the team that they beat 12 nil previously - explain that one guys……. Second loss was to their old friends The Punishers (aka Red Devils from Sunday League). Third time playing these guys - must be some sort of fatal attraction thing you have going on. Goals by Leon and Dave Hill. Highlight for me was Mark’s growling response when I asked what the score was - wonder if he has hidden anger management issues?

Broken lost 0 - 1 and 1 - 3. First loss to a team we had beaten in the first round and it was a soft goal. Second game was against a good side and we were coming good at the end - lots of slick passing etc. Story of both games - absolutely crap shooting by all of us. Brad was the only one with success.

This week we welcomed Dan and hopefully we’ll see more of him (eh Dan!!!). This was also Geoff’s last game as he’s away for the next two weeks - of course he will be one of the first at training on the 19th.

Two more weeks to go……

Sweep Stake

Thought we could run a competition - who will yell on the field first: will it be Bridget or Jim. Hmmmm a question for the Killers, can Shane enter into the running as well??

My money is on Bridget - as I told her on Wednesday, she is a woman after all so being quiet can’t last.

A double loss for the Killers:  2 - 3 and 2 - 5. Apparently the 2nd team they played was pretty good with several players also in the serious league. Not sure why that’s an issue - I mean we played in the serious league last year (not that we competed very well).

The Broken had a 2 all draw and a 1 - 2 loss. Slightly disappointing as we scored first in both games but I guess that’s what happens when your strikers keep aiming for the posts.

Nice to see another two players scoring.

Please........

My children couldn’t have a xmas dinner as we couldn’t afford it - due to some non-payment of soccer subs. $20 for a year of running around in extreme heat - now that’s value.

Please pay up
